Privacy policy for the Work & Life Android app

Work & Life (“the app”) is a planner for shift and irregular-schedule workers. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what the app does with your information. It describes the app as it exists today — if that ever changes, this policy changes first, and you will be asked to review it again before the app continues.
Work & Life is developed and published by Kalakandan, an individual developer based in the United Arab Emirates. For the limited data described in section 4, that person is the data controller.

Everything you enter — shift pattern, schedule changes, leave, habits, tasks, spending, pay settings, medication and family reminders, and sleep preferences — is stored only in the app’s private storage on your own phone. The database holding it is encrypted at rest. A small amount of app state sits alongside it in the app’s private area without that extra layer — the answers you give during setup before you finish it, and the details of an alarm you have snoozed — where Android prevents other apps from reading it. None of it is ever uploaded to a server of ours, because we do not operate one. The app’s backup rules explicitly exclude all of this from cloud backup and device-to-device transfer.
We never receive, see, store, or have any technical means of accessing it.
The app displays one banner ad using Google AdMob. To select and measure that ad, the Google Mobile Ads SDK allows Google to collect and process:
This is collected by Google acting as a third party, under Google’s own policies. It is never combined with the schedule, health, or financial information you enter — that data never leaves your phone.
Advertising partners. Google AdMob is the only third party that receives anything from this app. There is no mediation network, no ad exchange, and no other third-party SDK.
To be precise about “analytics”: we add no analytics or crash-reporting software of our own — there is no Firebase, no Google Analytics, no Crashlytics, and nothing that reports your use of the app to us. We receive no reports at all. Google’s own ad software does, however, perform its own measurement and analytics on the advertising data listed above, for the purposes in section 5.

These are the same purposes declared in this app’s Data Safety disclosure on Google Play; the two are meant to be read together and must always agree. The data is used for no other purpose, it is not used by us, and it is never used to build a profile of you for anything other than the ad above.
Where the GDPR applies, our legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a)), obtained before any ad request is made. Where consent is not the applicable basis in your region, we rely on the choices you make in the prompts described in section 8.
Google processes advertising data on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Those transfers are made under Google’s own safeguards (EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework), as described in Google’s privacy policy linked above.
We keep nothing — we operate no server and receive no data, so we have no retention period to state. Data you enter lives on your phone until you delete it or uninstall the app. Advertising data described in section 4 is retained by Google according to Google’s own retention policies.
We do not receive money in exchange for your personal information. However, we would rather be accurate than reassuring: because the app shares an advertising ID with Google for personalised advertising, this activity may qualify as a “sale” or as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) and similar laws in other US states.
You can opt out. Use Settings → About → Ad privacy choices, or reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone’s system settings. We do not discriminate against you for exercising this right.
We do not knowingly process sensitive personal information for advertising purposes.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, object to, or restrict processing of your personal data, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time.
Because we operate no server and hold no data about you, the practical position is:
If you are in the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection supervisory authority.
The app requests no location, camera, contacts, or storage permissions.
When you use a “Share” feature (your roster, your free evenings, a backup file, or an “I’m home” message), Android’s own share sheet opens and you choose where it goes. The app itself never transmits your entered information automatically.
The app is a general-purpose planner and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Aside from the standard advertising data described in section 4, it collects no personal information. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us and we will act.
Data you enter is held in the app’s private storage and excluded from cloud backup and device transfer. The database is encrypted at rest, with the key held in the device’s own secure key store. A small amount of app state — unfinished setup answers, and snoozed-alarm details — is kept in the app’s private area without that additional encryption, protected by Android’s app sandbox rather than by a key. An optional biometric / screen-lock app lock is available in Settings. Because no data is transmitted to or held by us, there is no server of ours that can be breached.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new “last updated” date and an incremented policy version. Material changes will require your agreement again inside the app before it continues.
